I had the pleasure of working with Carol Brown (choreographer) on costumes for a re-creation of dance piece the Demon Machine. Choreographed in 1924 by one of the pioneering women of modern dance Gertrud Bodenwieser. Dancers from the Victorian College of the Arts were clothed in bold silver and black geometric costumes to perform this electric work, expressing the anxieties of the machine age during the Weimar era. One of my favourite reference images was by D’Ora Benda from 1936.
